Thanks to generous sponsorship from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), SDRN was once again able to hold the Young Researcher Poster Session during the conference evening reception, to showcase the work of sustainable development researchers at the beginning of their careers. The session aims to provide early career researchers with an opportunity to showcase their work at a high-profile conference, among an audience of respected academics, policy-makers and other representatives from business, NGOs and the research community.
This year’s competition was themed ‘Living With Environment Change’ in respect of this pioneering ten-year programme, supported by the UK’s major funders of environmental research. LWEC aims to strengthen the environmental change evidence base for policy-makers, in part by addressing the uncertainties that remain about the impacts of climate change and the links between natural capital and human well-being.

This year’s posters were all highly of a very high standard, making the judging process particularly difficult. Five posters were shortlisted, with Sarah Hards and Judith Sykes winning the first and second prizes, respectively. Copies of these shortlisted posters may be downloaded below:
