The ITRC-MISTRAL research programme has arrived at a critical milestone in the development of infrastructure systems analysis. During its first five years, ITRC developed NISMOD, the UK’s first National Infrastructure Systems MODel, integrating energy, transport, digital, water and waste systems analysis.

Since 2016, the MISTRAL programme has extended ITRC’s work to the scale of local communities and buildings, representing innovation in the infrastructure services upon which they depend. Meanwhile we pioneered the analysis of global infrastructure networks that service the global economy.

ITRC is recognised as a global leader in infrastructure systems analysis, with our methods being applied in a growing number of countries internationally.

Our vision for the MISTRAL, of multi-scale infrastructure analytics, which harnesses big data, computing and visualisations, from the household to the whole world, is coming into sight.

As we approach the midpoint of the MISTRAL programme, we will showcase ITRC’s latest research, with examples of how the models, methods, tools and datasets are being applied in the UK and internationally.
